Remembering Moments

This post makes sense when you remember the date - September 11th. I had a bi-annual meeting scheduled for today and anytime someone said the date I bumped on it. When I got home my Facebook feed reflected that the U.S. had caught up to my calendar day. This year I was struck by two specific things.

That day was horrible. It was much worse for many. I am not going to retell my day. It is one of those moments that I am transported to as soon as someone mentions the 11th of September. There are tears. I have strong words with God. I come back to the present and go on.

This year, in addition to the images of the two towers, American flags, first responders, etc. there were postings about the musical "Come From Away". If you haven't been paying attention for the last couple of years, "Come From Away" is the story of Gander, Newfoundland on September 11th. Prior to its Tony winning Broadway run, the show ran in Seattle. The show is fun and fabulous, but with September 11th being at the heart of the show that days and all of its emotions run close to the surface.

My mom's birthday, December of 2015, I asked her what she wanted to do for 'her day'. It was particularly important that she had a chance to as she was giving hospice care at home. She chose "Come From Away". So, in addition to the tears that would flow from the show the tears of grief were intermingled. We turned our phones off as we went in, but weren't sure if we would turn them back on to learn that the pain and ended and we were planning a memorial service. LOTS of emotions will always be linked to this show.

What I've Read This Month

What I've Read This Month...

After completing my 'book a day' challenge for the summer I read more articles and blogs during the month of August, though I did complete one book.

Obviously

After greeting one another I put my backpack in the rear of the vehicle and step out of the way while he loads my suitcases. Once I am settled into my seat I make all the adjustments needed. The side view mirrors are nearly in place when he gets in. "What are you doing?" he asks.

I think, with all the snark in me, "What the heck do you think I'm doing? It is my first chance to legally drive in Saudi Arabia. Of course I'm driving home."

I just smile and put the car into gear.

Proximity To Fame

Proximity to famous people is something sought by many. It's never been a thing for me. (There's this story, from high school, in which I gained a friend because I blew past the 'oh-wow-they-are-so-famous' part.) I am much more drawn to awesome people. If they happen to have become famous somewhere along the way - well, I won't hold it against them.

Last night I had the chance to fan girl, on multiple occasions, but I didn't. Tommy Kail and Seth Steward walked by me, like within two feet of me - twice. Luz Towns-Miranda and I locked eyes. My grin commanded my entire face. I said a million things to her; inside my mind. Luis Miranda was next - and I couldn't help myself! His smile is one of those smiles that shines from his eyes. I waved like a crazy person until I caught his attention and we both smiled. (Later, as he passed again, even closer, I controlled my flailing and noticed he had taken out his pony tail.)

I loved watching the reaction of those who had the chance to be in the room for the "In The Heights" tenth anniversary vinyl release signing. Some of those people I had a connection with and this was my chance to meet IRL. Emotions were strong and everyone was so positive through their grins, tears, numbness, or combination of the previously mentioned feelings.

The night was capped with the final two people we were waiting for walking out with Alex Lacamoire. A group picture was needed and we asked Sir Lac to be the photographer. (No "One, two, three, cheese!" for this musical wonder! "One and two and three" - click, right on the beat.)

We give him the photo credit.

And here's the proof.
