The Jury's Still Out

The jury is still out.

It is day four of the new school year and I don't want to jinx the year. Am I seeing their true colors yet? When will their annoying habits begin? In a week or two or three will we run into content that baffles them?

Thus far I am very excited about the possibilities. The students are well behaved, engaged, and motivated. They are kind to each other and quick to meet or exceed expectations. Their prior knowledge is where I would hope it to be. To (mostly) steal a line "Oh the Places We Could Go!"

At the same time I am remembering that today is a full moon. I am remembering that I have three boys yet to appear. I am also remembering that there are two yet to be vouched for desks in my room.

The jury is still out.

  3. Like so many things, teachers must do the waiting for the students' colors to emerge, or to change. I liked that you are reserved about the possibilities, both positive and negative, but others are right, it could be a marvelous year. Welcome to blogging.

  4. Glad you took the leap. It is a scary thing to click the post button the first time! You'll be glad you did--this is a great community!

I know what you mean about the jury still being out. It seems to me it takes awhile for those "true colors" to show up.

Have a great year and can't wait to read more from you!

  5. I remember that scary feeling when I linked my first post. You'll be glad you did. :)

I liked reading about your thoughts as you looked out at your class. So many questions. Lots of unknowns.

  6. Thanks everyone for the encouragement. We finished the week still going strong. I'll let you know how Saturday goes when at least one of my 'missing' boys is due to arrive. (Confused yet? Our weekend is Thursday & Friday.)
