Disappointments

Disappointments - those things that you have high hopes for and then, well, it just isn't what you had hoped it would be. Let me give you some examples.

Dark Chocolate Mini Eggs. I am a dark chocolate girl, all the way. I can often leave milk chocolate sitting there and not be tempted by it. For some reason I LOVE Cadbury Mini Eggs. You know, those egg shaped chocolates that are encased in speckled, hard candy shells - I love them. It would make sense that Dark Chocolate Mini Eggs would be an improvement on the original, right? No. They aren't. Truly disappointing.

The Hobbit movies that came out in 2012 - 2014. Please tell me you are nodding vigorously in agreement that these movies are on my list of examples of disappointments. I could write paragraphs about my love of the book, what a read-the-book-don't-bother-with-the-movie person I am, and how long it took me see the LOTR movies because of the previous comment, but I'll cut to the chase. I gave the first of the Hobbit movies a chance. Yes, I was concerned that the shortest of the books was going to be made into more than one movie and yes, that shouldn't have been enough of a warning. #disappointment #toomanyogres

Have you ever settled in for a flight, somewhere in the 8 - 10 hour range, looking forward to what movies you might watch with a chunk of time extended before you only to find out that your personal entertainment system - and by 'your' I mean just the one for you, not the entire plane's - doesn't work? And the flight is completely full. And rebooting the system doesn't solve the challenge. Yeah, disappointment.

I was pleasantly surprised that as I thought about ideas for this post I struggled to come up with them. I have a couple of others that made my brain storming list; cancelled trip, professor with deep knowledge, but poor public speaking skills, and something else that I wrote in some form of shorthand that I can't figure out what I mean.

Oh, and this one...
The fact that I don't get to participate in the SOLSC this year as I won't have internet access for a good chunk of the month. Sorry, Mom. I know you are disappointed as you were looking forward to it being your favorite month for the ninth year. #streakendsateight #disappointed

  1. I am happy you are here for the days you do have internet access! I love how this challenge forces me to think about topics for posts in a new way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  2. I love how you crafted your post around disappointments, some bigger and some smaller! I have completed 7 of 8 challenges and while the one I did not complete was a bit disappointing, I wrote for some of the month and read some so I did not feel like I missed the entire month. I am guessing you are going somewhere remote for break? Maybe you will share?

    1. There is no way I could stay away from this group entirely. :) We plan to be in Bhutan. I can't even imagine it so the sharing will have to be after the fact.

  3. Write when you can and then notebook when you can’t. While you could not post them early on the site, you could prewrite and set post dates so you would still be “with” us.

    1. Posting when I don't have internet access is easy, but the commenting on other people's posts doesn't work out so well.

  4. This is a really cleverly crafted piece. I'm disappointed, too, that you won't be slicing, because I have always enjoyed your pieces. Maybe you could do what Readingteachsu said. Slice every day and post when you can.

    1. Thanks, Carol. I will have a few slices show up - it's part of what makes March.

  5. This is a great first slice full of snippets about you. I love the idea of structuring a piece around a single word. Your writing is so honest and true and your disappointments are ones we can connect with. I'm sorry you won't be here all month but look forward to reading your slices when you are.

  7. You can still write, on your own, offline and on paper ... the Net doesn't shape us as writers ...

  8. I hope that you will slice as you can! Your post is so clever, but I am glad that you struggled to come up with your disappointing moments!

  9. Sad to hear this. Please post as long as you can, and continue to write, even when the network access is gone. It's a very different experience for our brains to put pen/pencil to paper, and will still provide that outlet for you. Kindest regards.

  10. I was so excited to see your post until I got to the last paragraph Oh bummer - disappointment!! Why not write each day and then post when back to Internet. It will give us something to anticipate even when March is over!
