What Are You Reading?

“It’s Monday! What are you Reading?” is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. It is a chance for book lovers to share their reading accomplishments as well as what is on the proverbial nightstand. She even does a giveaway. Subsequently Jen and Kellee at Teach Mentor Textsadded an opportunity for those reading kidlit to join the fun. Since I read both I will post to both. Check them out, join the conversations, and discover more great books.

Books marked with an '*' I would put in my classroom library.
Books marked with a '#' would be in an middle or high school library.
Books marked with a ‘!’ would be good PD/teacher resource.
Books marked with a ‘@’ would be good for adult book clubs.

*  Pickle by Kim Baker
A group six grade students form an undercover club with the purpose of making pickles pulling pranks.

!  Reading Ladders by Teri S Lesesne
The idea is picking a book that is within reach and the book you ultimately want your students to read and then placing small increments in between to lead them up the ladder to the goal.

A Hundred Flowers by Gail Tsukiyama
Set in China during the cultural revolution this novel follows the ties of a family to one another.

#  To Be Perfectly Honest by Sonya Sones
”A novel based on an untrue story” is what greats you on the cover. Within the first few pages a grand example of an unreliable narrator is setup. She often points out her lies, as she is an expert ‘re-teller’ of life. What happens when she falls in love?

@  Cracking Up by Kimberlee Conway Ireton
A thoroughly enjoyable memoir through the journey of pregnancy and postpartum depression. Kimberlee writes with frankness of her struggles and thanksgivings, while she is pushed to see where God is working in her life.

The Doll People by Ann M Martin & Laura Godwin
This was recommended as an audio book that our family would enjoy. We probably would have, but the library CDs were so scratched we couldn’t get past chapter three. I was curious so I found a hard copy to see what happened to the living dolls when the people of the house were our or sleeping.

  1. I'm so impressed with your juggling of books! I found I can't really do that anymore since I started book blogging...

To Be Perfectly Honest! I read part of that book in Barnes and Noble once. I really liked it. I only recently remembered it again, however there's a new cover floating around I think. So I'll have to pick it up sometime.

Ah, Ann M. Martin. I used to read her Babysitters Club (and Little Sister) books all the time growing up. I actually picked one up I 'hadn't' read last month.

  2. Really like The Doll People - helped me get some of my third grades back into reading the Borrowers too.

  3. I have yet to read a PD text written by Teri Lesesne. I just checked our institution's online library database, and we have a few of her titles including Reading Ladders - will check that one out soon. Thanks for sharing!
