“It’s Monday! What are you Reading?” is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. It is a chance for book lovers to share their reading accomplishments as well as what is on the proverbial nightstand. She even does a giveaway. Subsequently Jen and Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts added an opportunity for those reading kidlit to join the fun. Since I read both I will post to both. Check them out, join the conversations, and discover more great books.
Here is what I have read in the past month. I enjoyed many of these books for a variety of reasons. In fact, there is not a dud in the bunch.
Those with an # I would highly recommend.
An * indicates my ‘must own’ list, either for myself or my classroom library.
What was the book I was only 43% through last month? Here is it is. (When I went to post the link I found out it was originally published as three books. No wonder it is well over 900 pages!)
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
One Amazing Thing by Chitra Divakaruni
The Green House by Audur Ava Olafsdottir
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett #
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern #
The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
Wonder by R.J. Palacio *
(Will be the assigned summer reading for my 6th graders)
Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm
I haven't read The Night Circus, but have heard so many good things, Kristi. I have read Wonder-amazing. I'll look up some of the others, but since your don't recommend so much, they won't go to the top of the stack. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI loved The Night Circus too - and State of Wonder is one that I plan on reading hopefully one day soon. So what are you reading next after having such an amazing month with books :-)

ReplyDeleteHere is my meme: http://vidya-booksaremagic.blogspot.com/2012/05/its-monday-what-are-you-reading_28.html
I liked 1Q84 and I loved The Night Circus. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteState of Wonder and Wonder both have my attention. I've heard great things about Patchett and I need a book to read to my middleschool boy this summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of State of Wonder? I liked it, but it took a long time for me to get into it as I didn't like the lead character that much. I also have Bel Canto on the highest shelf of book-love honor, so it's always hard to compare her other books to that. And I look forward to getting to Paris Wife someday soon in the TBR! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI just finished State of Wonder too. Seems like it went from relatively hard to get into at the beginning to a total wow! at the end. Love books like that. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI had no expectations when I started State of Wonder. I will often add a book to my library hold list and read it when it becomes available, not remembering who gave me the nudge to add it. I enjoyed it and think it would be a great book club book. (Some life when I have those opportunities again.)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, State of Wonder! We're reading it for my book group this week, although I'd already read it last year. Great book. The Night Circus too.
ReplyDeleteSeems we like the same kind of books, so I subscribed by RSS.
I'm actually listening to Night Circus right now- it is a great audio and a magical story.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about Wonder- brilliant. I wish it was on our summer reading, but we try to stick to paperbacks; maybe soon.
Thank you for sharing the other books.
Happy reading this week! :)
The Night Circus was a strange little wonderful book wasn't it? I liked it but it took forever to get into! Can't wait to hear what you think of it :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading this week!!
What are YOU reading??
