One Foot In Front Of The Other

More than 6 kilometers of walking today.
Did we go for a hike?
Urban hiking.
We walked to church and then to friends' for lunch and then home.
Not so much for grown up legs, but for someone 3.5 feet tall, that is loads.

She is sleeping now.

I am not far behind her, but not from the walking (though walking at her pace can be painful). I preached this morning. I haven't preached since she was born. I forgot how much I like having a quiet morning to really focus on the task ahead of me. Those days are over, at least for the time being.

In some ways the task of preparing the sermon and then preaching was a process of reminding myself to put one foot in front of the other. I am trained. I know how to do this. I am simply out of practice. Reminding myself of the steps got me going and as the momentum built I remembered why I enjoy it.

(I haven't forgotten why I enjoy sleep. It won't take me many steps to get there.)

  1. What a sweet piece. Neat that you combined messages about your child and leading a sermon. Woven together with a walk.

  2. I feel a kindred spirit here. I also love how all of it was intertwined. It gives me so much to think about.

  3. I like how you contrasted your child "putting one step in front of the other" for walking such a long time to you doing so as you prepared/led your sermon. Very creative!
